From what I understand, cards up through the 700 series weren't badly effected by running at speeds 2.0 x8 (= 1.0 x 16) so I doubt I'll suffer much from that. nvidia professional line card 16 gb 448 gb/s gddr6 256-bit 80 - 165 w 1. If it is also related to PCIe 1.0 performance limitations, then I suppose there will not be as much performance gain. So I plan on installing x5365 CPUs in both, which from what I understand should more than double performance.

Currently with the 780 in the Mac Pro 1,1 with x5150s I only manage about 40 frames MINIMUM settings in Fortnite, but I am almost positive this is CPU related. I am wondering which card is the best performance for price.
They are all relatively similar in performance from what I can tell, with between 2-4GB VRAM and clock speeds 900-1100 MHz. It’s still very powerful and the gorgeous 16-inch screen makes editing videos a joy. These are all sub 200 dollar cards, with the first 3 being sub 100 in a lot of cases. While the new 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro is our top choice as the best MacBook for video editing, the previous 2019 device shouldn’t be dismissed if you find a good deal. However, since 2016 the Maxwell GPUs have become less expensive and caught my attention. According to Apple, once a Metal-capable graphics card has been installed in a 2010 or 2012 Mac Pro, macOS Mojave can be downloaded and installed after turning off FileVault. The 780 is reasonably powerful in the other one, and in fact I question if I am even able to get all the performance from it since I'm running it in x16 PCIe 1.0. I run Windows and El Capitan, so to maintain MacOS support I won't be able to use a Pascal GPU or above (No 1000 or 2000 series NVidia). Even though I don't need two powerful Macs, because I already have the first Mac Pro and a couple gaming rigs, I just can't help but waste money upgrading this one. Recently I acquired another 1,1 for FREE, this one only has 4GB RAM and the base 2.0GHz Xeons.

I paid $279 for the 8800GT for MacPro 1,1 series - that was around the end of 2008 which was end of when they were available - supply availability died up and of course those have the infamous "bake in oven" if the solder goes bad. just two years ago, October 2010 after they caught up with new Mac Pros.

The 5770 from Apple has always been ~$249 + s/h - and at the time ATI had just cut the PC versions from $220 or so down to $120-150 so a lot of people (summer 2010, the 5770 supply for upgrades did not start shipping unitl. There was no 5770 2.5 yrs ago which would have been not 2011 anyway but Early 2009.įor us, Apple was still selling that over priced dust bunny clogger X1900 $399 yes.
